Show Us Your Books {April 2017}

It’s that time of month where my To-Read list grows and grows! Here’s what I’ve been reading lately:

Watching Edie by Camila Way – 3 stars
Received from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This book was disturbing in many ways, and I thought that I had it figured out but I didn’t. It’s about Heather and Edie, high school friends who had a strangely intense relationship for not knowing each other very long and whose friendship ended traumatically. Now in their thirties they are back in each others lives as Edie becomes a single mom. I really could not relate to either of the two and I went back and forth on which I disliked more or thought was crazier. It was a quick read but not my favorite.

Maggie Dove by Susan Breen – 3 stars
Received from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This was the first of the Maggie Dove series. It’s what I consider “a cute murder mystery”. Good for curling up with a cup of tea on the weekends or before bed and not freaking you out. When a couple of murders hit close to home in Maggie’s sleepy town, the retired Sunday School teacher is on a mission to figure it out. I enjoyed it and will probably read the next installment of the series.

The Sister by Louise Jensen – 2 stars
This is not on the top of my list of thrillers. I found the “twist” to be really obvious and was not emotionally invested in any of the characters. I found myself just wanting it to end instead of really looking forward to finding out what happens…

Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham – 2 stars
I was really excited to about this book because I love Lauren Graham. I’m a huge Gilmore Girls fan and I loved Parenthood. I listened to the book on Audible and sadly I was not impressed. The story was okay but nothing special really and I found myself slightly annoyed by Graham’s narrating. Kind of a disappointment.

And the must-reads I recently shared:
The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George
The Rumor by Elin Hilderbrand
The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes
Not Working by Lisa Owens
Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris

Happy Reading 🙂

  • It’s such a bummer when a thriller has an obvious twist. I read Someday, Someday, Maybe a few years ago and thought it was a cute story, but definitely nothing crazy special.

  • I thought Lauren Graham’s fiction was just okay.

I like cozy mysteries here and there. I’ll keep an eye out for that series.

    Thanks for joining us!

    • Maggie Dove is good as far as cozy mysteries go. My favorite cozy mysteries are the Hannah Swensen series, I recommend checking those out!

Maggie Dove sounds a bit like a cozy mystery. Sorry none of these were TOP reads for you.
