Show Us Your Books {August 2017}

I always think I’m going to have way more time to read in the summer but it didn’t really happen so I only have a few books to share from the last couple of months. All I would recommend and all very different! Into the Water by Paula Hawkins – 4 stars I went into reading this a little unsure because I heard such mixed reviews. Girl on the Train was such a hit that this book had a lot to live up to but it was completely different and definitely deserves to be evaluated as such. I really enjoyed it. Yes, there were way too many characters and points of view to read from, I could have done without a few and just read […]

Show Us Your Books {June 2017}

I thought I would get through more books this month at the beach and by the pool but no such luck…the ones I did read/listen to were all 4 or 5 stars so I guess it was quality over quantity! Linking up for Steph and Jana for the June book reviews! I Liked My Life by Abby Fabiaschi – 5 stars  Soooo good. This story is heart breaking and heart warming at the same time. For a debut novel, it was very well written. I listened to this book on Audible and never wanted to step away from listening, it really pulls you in to their lives! Each chapter is told from three points of view: Maddie, a wife and mother who really liked her […]

Show Us Your Books {May 2017}

Linking up with Steph and Jana for Show Us Your Books. This was a good month for books. I would recommend all of these! The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond – 4 stars Received from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. A newlywed couple gets themselves sucked into a secret, dark society. It’s equal parts creepy, intriguing and unbelievable. Wasn’t sure how I felt about the ending, it seemed like a let down but I didn’t exactly hate it. Overall, a great story because it really sucks you in. I stayed up a few nights much later than I should have because I didn’t want to put it down! Everything You Want Me to Be by Mindy Mejia – 4 stars Received from Netgalley […]

Show Us Your Books {April 2017}

It’s that time of month where my To-Read list grows and grows! Here’s what I’ve been reading lately: Watching Edie by Camila Way – 3 stars Received from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This book was disturbing in many ways, and I thought that I had it figured out but I didn’t. It’s about Heather and Edie, high school friends who had a strangely intense relationship for not knowing each other very long and whose friendship ended traumatically. Now in their thirties they are back in each others lives as Edie becomes a single mom. I really could not relate to either of the two and I went back and forth on which I disliked more or thought was crazier. It was a […]

5 Books to Read this Spring

Here’s some of my favorite recent reads: The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George Received from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review. Loved, loved, loved this novel! It has it all: romance, friendship, dreamy destinations, beautiful insights into human emotions. It’s a wonderful read, especially for book lovers! I liked all  of the characters, and characters they were! They were eccentric but lovable, kind of like townies. The protoganist Perdu, runs a literary apothecary and believes in the healing power of books. Although he frustrated me sometimes being too dramatic, I enjoyed his journey to heal himself. We learn about his late lover through her memoirs and at first I didn’t like her at all but she did grow on me. Overall, […]

Show Us Your Books {October}

Let’s talk about books! Here’s what I’ve read over the past few months: First Comes Love by Emily Giffin 4 stars I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this one. It was a light, easy read but a page turner at the same time. The story is told from the two very different perspectives of sisters who experienced a family tragedy. At first, I had a hard time relating to either them but they both grew on me. In the end, I liked the way it all worked out and the central themes of this book. I think Emily Giffin is always a safe bet.   All the Missing Girls by Miranda Megan 4 […]

What I’ve Been Reading (June)

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid 5 stars  When I saw Kristen’s review of this book I knew it was right up my alley and I loved it! It’s the classic tale of how one decision can completely change the course of your life. The book opens the night that Hannah Martin moves home to L.A. after years of moving all over the country for various reasons. That night, the decision to go home with her high school sweetheart or to go home with her best friend after a night out leads her on two very different paths. From the opening, each chapter switches back and forth from one life to the next and I liked how this allowed the two stories to […]

It’s almost time for the Semi-Charmed Summer 2016 Book Challenge! I’m excited for this because the Winter 2015 challenge was my first one and I jumped in a few days after it started when I saw a bunch of posts about it. I didn’t do so hot, but I feel much more prepared for this one and I can’t wait to hopefully read some great books this summer! Here’s the challenge categories and my preliminary reading plans: 5 points: Freebie! Read any book that is at least 150 pages long. The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George 10 points: Read a collection of short stories or essays. They may all be written by the same author, or the book may be an anthology from different […]

What I’ve Been Reading (May)

It’s time for Show Us Your Books! Here’s the books I’ve read since the last link-up, in order of my favorite to least favorite: No One Knows by J.T. Ellison  4 out of 5 stars I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.   This is one of the first books I’ve read that almost lives up to it’s reputation of “a mystery as thrilling as The Girl on the Train”, almost but not quite. I really enjoyed the book, I didn’t want to put it down and really wanted know what happened next. The twists in it also took my complete surprise. I really liked the main character Aubrey, until the end. I wasn’t a huge fan of […]
