Top 6 Beaches in Santorini island
When you are visiting Santorini – Santorini car rental– you are definitely going to explore its beaches and magical scenery too. If you are new to Greek islands you might need some help in order to find out where the best beaches are. Of course, we can not forget the fact that every person has different needs and wants to visit different types of beaches.
People who travel to Santorini with their families might need to visit a quieter beach while single people or groups of friends could use a more adventurous and crowded beach. Today, we are going to offer you some information about the top 6 beaches in Santorini island and we are going to cover every taste possible!
Perissa (Black beach)
The Perissa beach which is also know as the Black Beach, is a long beach that is full of black sand and pebbles. Its colors are fascinating to the human eye and it is going to amaze you with its scenery. It is know as the busiest beach of the island and we can admit that it is the most organized one.
In that beach, you can witness clear blue waters and black sand and you are able to sit in Perissa all day. There are some beach bars too where you have the chance of listening to the most famous DJs from around the world while enjoying your cocktails. There are also “facilities” for beach sports such as volleyball and of course water sports.
The access to the beach is easy as it is close to Fira and the Airport of the island. You can get there by public transport but it is easier if you will rent a car as taxis in Santorini are expensive.
Kamari Beach is another famous one in Santorini which also has dark pebbles and many available sunbeds. It is a great choice if you are traveling with your family as it is quiet and organized. There are also many traditional taverns where you can enjoy your lunch and many cafes where you can drink your coffee while gazing at the sea.
You can go to Kamari beach pretty easily too as it is close to Fira and accessible with the public transport means. However, if you are traveling with children or seniors, it is better to rent a car so that you will be more independent and that you will not wait in the sun.
It was not possible to not include the beach with the greatest beach bar of the island! Eros (which in Ancient Greek means Love), is a small, narrow beach in Santorini, with a relaxing atmosphere and the greatest lounge bar in the whole island.
You could really enjoy your day there with your other half, lying by the sea, riding horses and drinking refreshing cocktails! It could not be missing from our Top 6 Beaches in Santorini island list, but it is not very easy to go there. You will need to have your own car and the road is not very straight. But it is definitely worth it!
This particular beach is a wonderful landscape with white pebbles and rocks and it is rarely crowded as it is very long so people have a distance. There are also neither noisy beach bars nor water sports available. It is a place for families or for those who need to take their time and relax.
You can of course find some sunbeds that are available with a small charge and next to the beach you can also find a small port. In the port there are taverns where you can enjoy fresh fish and other Greek traditional dishes.
Unfortunately there are no public transport means available to get you to this beach. You will need to have a rental car in order to reach it and it is super friendly for people with kids. To get there you can either ask for directions or follow the road signs.
This beach is one of the most exciting and famous beaches of Santorini. It could not be missing from the Top 6 Beaches in Santorini island as its red volcanic rocks that are found around the beach make it breathtaking. They are in contrast to the blue sea water and it is a perfect spot for those who love photography.
It is quite small so you will need to get there early in order to find a spot. The path to get down the beach is quite rough so we would advise you to wear shoes and not flip flops. The road to get there is not the easiest so we would not recommend it to people with children or seniors. There is a parking close to the beach where you can park your rental car.
This is another really quiet and family-friendly beach as the tourists do not prefer to go there. The Katharos beach is small with small pebbles and sand. You can see many huge volcanic rocks around the beach which make the beach look intimidating.
It is close to Oia and Ammoudi and you can enjoy beautiful sunsets there. To get there you are going to need a car or a motorbike. It is a 5 minute drive from Ammoudi and you could try to go on foot if you are close to Ammoudi (appriximately a 30 minute-walk).
Bonus: Ammoudi bay
This is not exactly a beach but we include it in our guide as a bonus. Ammoudi is a small village right below Oia where you can find taverns with fresh fish and other traditional plates. As it is not a beach, there are no sunbeds or a place to sit near the beach so it is not the best place for children or older people.
We also need to mention that there are no buses to Ammoudi but it is only 5 minutes away from Oia if you have rented a car for your vacation.
